How to Measure Your Walls for Custom Wallpaper | Applied Coverings

Posted by eric daily on

Every wall is unique—and that’s what makes custom wallpaper exciting. To help you get the best fit, here are some simple tips:

  • Add 2–4 inches (5–10 cm) to both the width and height to allow extra room for installation and trimming.
  • We’ll produce your wallpaper to the exact measurements you provide.
  • Use the examples below for guidance on measuring different wall types.

Standard Walls

Measure the full width and height of the wall you want to cover. Double-check your numbers to be sure, and only include the area that will receive wallpaper—skip baseboards, crown molding, or trim.

Multiple Walls

If your wallpaper wraps around more than one wall, measure each section and add the widths together for a total. No need to order separately—we’ll produce it as one continuous wallpaper.

Sloped Walls

For walls or ceilings with a slope, measure the tallest height and the widest width, ignoring the angled section. We’ll print your wallpaper as a full rectangle or square, and the slope can be trimmed on-site during installation.

Pitched Walls

When a wall has two slants, measure the maximum height and the widest width. As with slopes, we’ll create a full rectangle or square, and you’ll trim the angled portions during installation.

Wall with Obstacles

When a wall has two slants, measure the maximum height and the widest width. As with slopes, we’ll create a full rectangle or square, and you’ll trim the angled portions during installation.
