For the fastest results, upload a high-resolution JPEG or TIFF or PDF directly through our customizer.
If you’re working with other file types ( PSD, AI, EPS, etc.), just send them to us—we’ll take care of the setup for you.
Find Images from Online Libraries
Another great way to source artwork for your custom wall mural is through online image banks. With millions of photos, illustrations,
and patterns available, you can easily find a design that fits your style and space.
For premium options, we recommend Shutterstock, which offers a huge collection of high-resolution images perfect for large-scale wallpaper printing. If you’re looking for free resources, Unsplash and Pexels are also excellent places to explore.
Keep in mind that not every image is suitable for wallpaper. Our design team is happy to review your selections and let you know if
the quality is high enough for printing.
What to Look for When Choosing an Image for Your Custom Wall Mural
When creating a wall mural or custom wallpaper, image quality makes all the difference. A sharp, high-resolution image ensures your design prints beautifully at full wall size without losing clarity. To help you get the best results, here are three key factors to consider before uploading your artwork:
1. Image Size
Always start with the largest, original version of your image. Enlarging a small photo won’t improve the quality and will result in a blurry mural. For best results, we recommend using images that are at least 10 megapixels or higher to ensure crisp, detailed printing.
2. Resolution (DPI)
Resolution is measured in Dots Per Inch (DPI). For wallpaper and murals, images should be at least 150–300 DPI in their raw form. A true high-resolution photo (300 DPI) depends on three things: the quality of the camera, the size of the original file, and the steadiness and lighting of the shot. The higher the resolution, the better your mural will look when scaled to fit your wall.
3. Sharpness & Clarity
Sharpness refers to the overall clarity of the image, including focus and contrast. Avoid blurry or out-of-focus photos, because any imperfections will become more noticeable once the image is enlarged to full wall size. Every detail counts —so start with the cleanest, sharpest version of your image for the most professional results.
At Applied Coverings, our design team reviews every uploaded file to make sure it meets print-quality standards. If you’re not sure whether your image is high enough quality, just send it to us—we’ll check it for free and guide you on the best options.
