Wallpaper Trade Program for Designers, Architects & Contractors

Applied Coverings prints custom wallpaper for the design trade out of our San Jose facility, with offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles. We work with interior designers, architects, commercial designers, contractors, property developers, and set designers across the country — printing every job to spec on the same five materials we'd put in our own homes and showrooms. The trade program exists because design pros need things consumers don't: real samples in hand, a person on the other end of an email, full spec documentation, and turnaround tight enough to keep a project on schedule.

Who we work with

The trade program supports six core audiences, and each has its own page with material recommendations, project workflow notes, and turnaround details:

  • Interior designers — residential and boutique commercial work, custom artwork uploads, panel-by-panel labeling.
  • Architects — Type II commercial wallcoverings with full CSI 3-part specs, fire ratings, and SDS sheets.
  • Commercial designers — hospitality, healthcare, retail, corporate, and education interiors.
  • Contractors and installation pros — direct job-site shipping, panel sequencing, install instructions per material.
  • Property developers — multifamily and portfolio work with coordinated palettes and volume lead times.
  • Set designers and stagers — rush turnaround, removable peel-and-stick, matte finishes for camera.

Trade program benefits

Approved trade members get four things consumer accounts don't:

  • Free samples on the materials and patterns you're spec'ing — shipped to your studio, not bundled into a paid order.
  • A dedicated trade rep who knows your account, your typical projects, and the materials you tend to specify. One contact, not a rotating support queue.
  • Full spec documentation — fire ratings, ASTM test results, LEED contribution sheets, SDS, CSI 3-part specs, and our complete trade lookbook on demand.
  • Made-in-USA priority production on a 5–7 day standard turnaround, with rush options when a project demands it. Free shipping nationwide on every trade order.

Materials and pricing

We print every pattern in our ~490-design catalog — and every customer-uploaded artwork — on five materials, each chosen for a different specification need:

  • Pre-Pasted — $5/sqft. Traditional paste-the-wall installation, smooth finish, ideal for residential rooms where install pros want a familiar process.
  • Peel & Stick Canvas — $5.50/sqft. Removable, repositionable, the workhorse for renters, staging, and lower-traffic interiors.
  • Suede Type II — $6/sqft. Soft hand, commercial-grade durability, excellent for hospitality lobbies and boutique retail.
  • Terralon Smooth Type II — $6.50/sqft. LEED Platinum-compliant Type II vinyl with recycled content — the spec sheet most LEED projects need.
  • Peel & Stick Linen — $7.50/sqft. Textured woven look without the install risk of true fabric, beloved for designer photography because it photographs like real linen.

You can also upload artwork or commission a custom mural through our custom upload tool — same materials, same trade benefits.

How the program works

Three steps:

  1. Apply through the short form on our trade application page. We need your business name, website, project type, and a quick note on what you typically work on.
  2. Get approved — we review every application manually and respond within one business day. Approval is a quick check that you're a real trade professional, not a gatekeeping exercise.
  3. Order with full benefits — your dedicated rep introduces themselves, sends a welcome packet with the trade lookbook, and walks you through requesting your first sample pack.

Why design pros work with us

A few things that come up consistently in conversations with new trade members:

  • Real samples, not swatch cards. The sample you receive is the same material printed with the same inks on the same press as the production order. What you put on the client's table is what shows up on the wall.
  • The full material spectrum. Most wallpaper companies pick a lane — residential or commercial, peel-and-stick or traditional. We print all five materials in-house, which means you're not forced to compromise on the spec because of vendor limitations.
  • One rep, one relationship. Your trade rep knows your project history. When you email about a substitution or rush slot, you're not re-explaining your firm's typical scope every time.
  • Documentation that exists. Spec sheets, SDS, fire test reports, LEED contribution worksheets — all on hand, all current, all ready to send the same day.

Common trade questions

A few of the most common pre-application questions:

  • Is there a cost to join? No. The program is free for verified trade professionals — interior designers, architects, contractors, developers, set designers, and related trades.
  • How many free samples can I request? Standard sample packs cover the materials and patterns you're actively spec'ing. Larger or recurring requests are routed through your dedicated rep, who can also coordinate larger memo packs for client presentations.
  • Do you ship to job sites? Yes — direct shipping to job sites or installer accounts is standard at no extra cost. We can hold delivery to align with the install date if your GC needs that.
  • What's the lead time? Standard production runs 5–7 business days from artwork approval. Rush options are available for set design, hospitality refreshes, and other tight-window work — flag the timeline early and we'll hold a slot.
  • Can I order trade-only on a project, or do I have to switch all my orders? Trade benefits apply to every order placed under your approved account. Mix and match — there's no minimum order or commitment.

The full Q&A — including production timelines, file format specs, install support, and payment terms — lives on our trade program FAQ. For commercial spec questions specifically, our commercial wallpaper page has more on Type II durability and certifications.
